Course Provisioning in a 3rd Party LMS

Integrating BizLibrary content with your preferred Learning Management System (LMS) ensures your learners have seamless access to our library. Depending on your technical resources and automation needs, there are three primary ways to provision course data.

Use the guide below to determine which method best fits your organization's workflow.

 

1. SFTP Site (Secure File Transfer Protocol)

This method involves BizLibrary "pushing" the necessary content files and metadata to a secure server, which your LMS can then pick up.

  • Pros:

    • Automated Updates: The site is updated weekly with the most recent files and thumbnails.

    • Automation Friendly: Ideal for organizations that want a "set it and forget it" push model to sync their library.

  • Cons:

    • Technical Barrier: If you aren't comfortable using SFTP tools or lack the IT resources to set up a listener, manual "on-demand" pulls can be cumbersome.

 

2. Content API

The Content API allows your LMS to "pull" data directly from our system in real-time. It is the most robust and flexible option for modern integrations.

  • Pros:

    • Real-Time Access: Get immediate access to newly published courses without waiting for weekly batch updates.

    • Highly Flexible: Offers the option to retrieve thumbnails as either a Base64 file or a direct URL.

    • Developer Friendly: The "pull" model is the industry standard for deep automation.

  • Cons:

    • File Delivery Nuance: If your LMS cannot use direct Course Launch URLs, course files are provisioned via email links following the API call. This extra step can complicate some fully automated workflows.

 

3. Manual Download (Curriculum Builder / LMS)

This is a self-service method where an administrator manually exports content packages directly from the BizLibrary platform.

  • Pros:

    • On-Demand: You can grab the latest file set for a specific course exactly when you need it.

  • Cons:

    • Manual Labor: This is a manual "pull" method and cannot be automated.

    • Missing Assets: Thumbnails are not included in these manual downloads, meaning they must be uploaded to your LMS separately.

 

Recommendation: For the best learner experience and the least administrative overhead, we recommend the Content API or SFTP methods to ensure your library stays current and visually engaging with thumbnails.
