As an administrator or manager, there are times when you need to see the platform exactly as an individual learner experiences it. Whether you are troubleshooting a missing course assignment, verifying course visibility, or assisting with a technical support ticket, the Impersonate User feature allows you to securely view and navigate BizLMS from a specific learner's perspective.
This guide outlines prerequisites, step-by-step instructions, and key security practices for using this feature.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure you meet the following requirements:
Learner Role: You must be assigned an Administrator role with explicit Impersonate User permissions.
Target Account: The learner's account must be Active. You cannot impersonate inactive accounts.
Step-by-Step Guide: How to Impersonate a Learner
Step 1: Access the User Management Dashboard
Log in to your BizLMS account using your administrator credentials.
From the main navigation menu, go to Administration.
If the Impersonate learner widget is active: Select Impersonate learner and search from a profile.
Or navigate to People > Learners
Step 2: Search for the Target Learner
Use the search bar or filter options (by name, email, or department) to locate the specific learner you wish to assist.
Verify that you have the correct user profile by reviewing their email address or enrollment details.
Step 3: Launch the Impersonation Session
Locate the target user in the learner list.
Click on the Actions menu (often represented by a gear icon, ellipsis, or dropdown arrow next to their name).
Select Impersonate.
A confirmation prompt may appear. Click Confirm to authorize the session.
You will be redirected to the learner’s home dashboard. Notice that the top banner or user profile indicator will typically notify you that you are currently viewing the platform as that user.
Step 4: End the Impersonation Session
Once you have completed your troubleshooting or review, locate the End Impersonation (or Return to My Account) button, usually found in the top user profile dropdown or a persistent banner at the top of the screen.
Click this button to securely terminate the learner session.
You will be redirected back to your own administrator account and dashboard.
