The Status tab on a course profile shows how learners are progressing, including their completion status and a score. This article explains what the score means for each type of content, so you know what to expect when you're reviewing learner results.
The most important thing to know first
Completion status and score are two separate things.
- Status answers: Did the learner finish and pass? (for example: Complete, Passed, In Progress, Not Started)
- Score is a separate number that depends on the type of content and what that content reports back.
Because of this, a learner can be marked Complete/Passed even when the score shown isn't a simple average of everything they did inside the course. The two values are recorded independently.
A second thing to know: the passing (mastery) score — the minimum needed to pass — only controls pass/fail. It does not set or change the score number you see on the Status tab.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my Video Course show 100 but the lessons inside show 87%? Because they're measured separately. The video player reports one overall completion score for the course (100 = completed/passed), while the 87% figures are the learner's actual scores on each lesson quiz. Both are correct — they're just different measurements.
The passing score is set to 80%. Why doesn't the course score show 80, or the learner's average? The passing (mastery) score only decides pass vs. fail. It doesn't set the number shown as the score. In the example above, 87% is above 80%, so the learner passes — and the course still reports its own completion score (e.g., 100) separately.
A document/eBook/classroom shows a 0 score. Did the learner fail? No. That content type isn't graded. Look at the status (Complete/attended) rather than the score.
Two learners both passed the same course but have different scores. Is that a bug? Not necessarily. Passing is based on the mastery score, but the score number can vary by attempt and by how the content reports it. Different scores with the same "Passed" status is expected.
