What is TeamBuilder?
TeamBuilder is a professional service offered that creates a team hierarchy using a client’s existing organizational structure. Starting from the highest-level personnel, the system creates a team for each manager and assigns subordinates within that team. TeamBuilder uses a learner’s name and username to create the team names. For example, a team name might look like this:
Jones, Katie (kjones19414850)
As learners are added to the system, if they have kjones19414850 listed as their supervisor, TeamBuilder will automatically add them to the team Jones, Katie (kjones19414850).
How Does TeamBuilder Work
TeamBuilder runs hourly, checking for learners with newly added supervisors or updated supervisors. If a learner has a newly added supervisor, they will be added to the supervisor’s team, or if no team exists for the supervisor, a new team will be created.
If a learner’s supervisor is updated, they will be added to the new supervisor’s team and removed from their old supervisor’s team. Any learners reporting under them will also be moved.
For example, Katie has five people who report to her. Her manager changed from the HR Director to the L&D Director. Katie will be moved to the L&D Manager’s team, and the five learners reporting to her will also be moved as a sub-team under the L&D Manager.
Please note, if a supervisor is inactive, learners will remain on the inactive supervisor’s team for reporting purposes until a new supervisor is added to the learners’ profiles.
If a learner does not have a supervisor listed, they will automatically be placed in the highest-level TeamBuilder team.
How to Use TeamBuilder
Before using TeamBuilder, check to ensure that your organizational hierarchy is in order. The system supports one, high-level manager that all managers exist under (usually this is a company President, CEO, etc.). Below the top-level manager, you can build your organization in a tiered approach, with one manager reporting to another, higher up in the organization.
Helpful Tip: TeamBuilder does not create a hierarchy based on a learner’s title. TeamBuilder uses the Supervisor field (which is the supervisor’s username in the system) to build and structure your organization’s teams. One learner (usually the CEO or President) should never have a supervisor listed, as they represent the highest-level team within the organization.
Please note, TeamBuilder does not support a horizontal management structure. For example, if a Human Resources Manager reports to a Learning and Development Manager, and the Learning and Development Manager’s supervisor is listed as the Human Resources Manager, this will cause hierarchical issues within the system, preventing a successful team build. Reviewing your existing organizational structure before using TeamBuilder will ensure your organization’s teams are built successfully using a tiered, hierarchical approach.
